The Leader Updates

Certification Changes

There are exciting, new changes coming to the PMI certification program. You can expect to see:

  • Better support to your career journey: creating stepping stones that help advance skillsets and link one certification to another.
  • More customized offerings: your needs change as you progress through your career so PMI certifications will adapt to address this as well.
  • Modernization: better reflection of real-world work experiences and practices.
  • Recognition of specialized skills: acknowledge the skillsets acquired through professional development efforts

The first change was to Pearson VUE for all certification exam delivery to provide more testing locations — over 5,000 worldwide and a better overall exam experience.

On 28 August, the following:

  • CAPM no longer requires 1500 hours of practical experience. Applicants will still have to have 23 hours of project management education completed before the exam and a secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or the global equivalent) to apply.
  • PMP applicants no longer require 35 hours of education if they are CAPM holders

In September, New Question Types on CAPM Exam

In June 2020, the Project Management Professional (PMP)® exam will be updated to ensure it reflects up-to-date practices and equips project managers with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in today’s modern project environments.
