Topic: Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery

Eventually all project managers will have to deal with Business Continuity Management (Business Continuity plans, Disaster Recovery plans, Business Impact Assessments, Emergency Planning) either as part of their project, or as a deliverable for a project they are working on. This session will provide the attendee with a basic understanding of Business Continuity Management.

Presenter 2:  Alex Jankovic - Stratogrid Advisory - Business Impact Analysis - BIA

Alex will focus on the importance of executing a Business Impact Analysis (BIA), its value to the organization, and tools and techniques which will ensure its execution.

Alex is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) and Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) who brings over 20 years of Business Continuity and Information Technology experience. He is a founder and principal consultant at StratoGrid Advisory, an Ottawa Business Continuity Management Advisory firm.

During his career, Alex has worked in a diversity of roles, including:

• Business Continuity Management and Disaster Recovery Advisor, 
• Technology/Technical Architect, 
• Director of IT Operations and Project Manager

Presenter 3:  Dennis Lenard - Lenard Consulting - Disaster Recovery for IT Infrastructure and Applications

The presentation will present the basic facets of a DR program. Although there are many styles of established DR programs, they all have the same basic structure. The topics covered will include, but not be limited to:

  • What is a DR Program
  • Establishing Requirements, Policy, and Program
  • Relationship with other BCM programs
  • Roles and Responsibilities
  • Plans and Requirements
  • Overall timeline, Project into Operation
  • Evergreen the Program
  • Bench-marking and Audit

Dennis Lenard, PMP, CBCP, MBCI is a consultant specializing in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity. With over 35 years of experience in industry, he offers expertise in the areas of business continuity and risk, IT disaster recovery, project management, IT security operations and IT Management. In his consultancy he has aided clients with analysis, creation, and exercise of their Crisis Management teams, Business Continuity environments, and Disaster Recovery programs and environments. He had managed a security operations group in a major global company for 7 years, and has extensive experience with setting up DR programs that work, as well as live exercises. As well Mr. Lenard’s background includes experience as a senior management professional with a proven track record of providing teams and projects with direction, process, and automation to maximize efficiency, improve service levels, and gain cost reductions via transformation and re-engineering.

Denis is an active member of DRIE Ottawa and the PMI Ottawa Valley Outaouais Chapter.
